Sosebenza Before..

Masi Mural @ Sosebenza!

to commemorate the wonderful work that is taking place at Sosebenza Youth Centre in Masiphumele, The Living Story Art Collective– a group of professional Artists, Performers and Story Tellers already active in the community – have, through a discussion process with the people of Masiphumelele, decided to create a lasting impression of Masiphumele’s positive story: a giant mural on the wall of the Sosebenza Centre for Peace.

How to tell this story

The Artists will work in partnership with the community members of all ages – both foreign and local –To translate their story into a living experience through various creative activities, thereby creating an interface for positive conversation and community introspection and healing.

Through the universal language of art the Sosebenza mural will continue to act as a lasting reminder to everyone regardless of. age, race or nationality or literacy-level, that people and circumstances can improve and will act as a symbol of peace for the future.

Artists of The Living Story Project will be working closely with the community of Masiphumelele through the Breath Water Sound (BWS) programme presented as part of the YLTP training course. Through the sense of togetherness shared during the YLTP and BWS workshops, participants share experiences and knowledge illustrating the common human values that exist and should be respected among us all.

Using storytelling, performance art, puppet-making and art workshops, the skilful Living Story team will record and help to develop the youth's knowledge and experiences into a visual experience encapsulated by the mural. This unique opportunity will also encourage a sense of ownership, participation and pride amongst community members
