100 years of Satyagarah

The event at the priemeres residence also marks 100 years that Mahatma Gandhi launched the modern nonviolent resistance movement. Gandhi called it "Satyagraha." in 1906 in Johannesburg, Gandhi organized a strategy of nonviolent resistance to oppose racist policies in South Africa. Satyagraha was born and since then, it has been adopted by many around the world to resist social injustice and oppression.
Gandhi used it in India to win independence from the British. The Reverend Martin Luther King used it in the United States to oppose segregation and Nelson Mandela used it in South Africa to end apartheid.

Shaping The Journey

We have been asked to put together a Multi Cultural Dance Performance for an evening at the Premiers residence on 17 December 2006. Guruji (Sri Sri ravi Shankar) is a guest of honor.
The Iqhude youth group that we have been working with in Khayelitsha, are amazing, talented performance artists and they have an opportunity, alongside Art of Living, to showcase their stuff to the Premier, along with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra ! Arts Cape have also been requested to put together a Multi Cultural Performance, so this will also form part of the performance. The Khayelitsha youth groups performance / dance will form the main backbone of the performance, and AOL will provide the multi cultural / musical effect which we want to create, which is a requirement for the performance.

A beautiful warm sunny day 17-18 June (National Youth Day )
with over 100 kids and youth creating.

more workshops are going to be held with smaller groups of various ages in Masiphumele, and Khayelitsha.

a rose by any other name would smell as sweet....

Ive attempted so many times to write about this ...but it doesn't always work. It worked in The beginning when it was still a concept .. then its was just a flyer, that we spread all over Cape Town.It Read; "The Living Story is expressed through art. Its about people seeing Breathing Life as Art".

You See it can be; that Life is a story, and we are the characters as well as the author.
And so it is must be our job as artists to express this story in the way we know best.It started with a meeting in Makhaza Khayelithsa were I encountered for the first time my extended family of Brothers and Sisters , soldiers in the world of preforming art; the Iqhude Youth Based Theatre company and Since Then we've done amazing things together;

And Now I find Myself at Rehearsals every Wednesday ;a dance Piece for the Premiere of the Western Cape with His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar along with The Philharmonic Orchestra and selling our Recent recorded CD of Songs and Poems created .... wow?

And it continues every day as we meet more characters and open new chapters together .....

its funny how after a while we stopped calling it "The Living Story"; Somehow When we stopped calling it anything everything started happening organically on its own , it became easier and we weren't doing it because it was something with a name ..but because we were doing it, it was . And The Story took a life of its own and we watched it as it weaved itself about us.

So prehaps the Living Story is a figment of my imagination, and thats all. Or maybe its a part of yours as well. Whatever.The Thing is its taking place, whether you know about it or not, whether you want to be a part of it, or not...

In fact its happening all over the world its just about whether you wish to acknowledge that your piece of the vision fits in with a bigger story much bigger then the small piece of vision that you have..And so you nourish your piece of vision while at the same time you become aware that this large story is a tale that will be told forward along the rivers of time . And you catch it every time you see it happening and pull threads together . And Beautiful Things Start to Happen

.....I will tell you more as we go . Theres a lot of exciting things that are happening with some beautiful creative people from Cape Town and Khayelitsha.
